INTRODUCTION

About the 24th

We are the 24th Glasgow Scout Group and we're based in Bearsden in the north-west of Glasgow. We run a varied, exciting programme of scouting activities for over 300 young people aged 6 to 18.

The aim of Scouting is to provide adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for each of our members. Personal development means promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are ‘learning by doing,’ when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.

Beavers (6-8 years)

Beavers are our youngest members. They take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities.

They also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.

Cubs (8 to 10 1/2 years)

A Cub Scout Pack can have up to 36 Cub Scouts and is split into smaller groups called Sixes. Cubs take part in a wide range of activities designed to be interesting and challenging. A Cub Scout meeting consists of games and activities with plenty of time spent outdoors.

Camps and pack holidays are some of the most memorable events of the year for Cubs.

Scouts (10 1/2 to 14 years)

Scouts engage in a wide range of activities, with outdoor activities and camping featuring prominently. Throughout the year Scouts learn various skills including first aid, map reading, cooking and camping skills.

Explorers (14 to 18 years)

Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from leaders. The section runs a Duke of Edinburgh programme, with the aim of helping each young person achieve DofE Gold.
